About the Role

Pendo is seeking a Director of Engineering to lead teams that own the Data Platform — the backbone of everything Pendo does. Systems process more than 50 billion events per day, peaking at over 1 million events per second, and manage dozens of petabytes of data across several production environments. The platform powers real-time data ingestion, batch processing, and analytics at scale. The Director sets strategy, builds high-performing teams, partners closely with SRE, stays close enough to the code to review designs and debug production issues, and owns the economics of running the platform at this scale. Hybrid in Raleigh, NC (3 days/week). Salary: $235,000–$280,000 USD. Posted 2026-10-27.

Requirements

• Several years of engineering management experience, including managing managers or multiple teams; a track record of building high-performing teams in a high-growth SaaS environment. • Demonstrated experience building and operating large-scale, data-intensive distributed systems in production — ideally at 50B+ events per day and petabyte-level data management. • Strong experience across real-time data ingestion, batch processing, and analytics or query systems. • Demonstrated cost and financial acumen at infrastructure scale: forecasting, optimization, attribution, and overrun diagnosis. • Deep experience with diverse database technologies — relational (SQL), document (NoSQL), columnar, and vector; hands-on experience with Firestore or similar is a strong plus. • Hands-on experience with multiple cloud platforms (GCP, AWS, Azure), including object storage and managed data services; deep GCP experience is especially valuable. • Experience with message queuing and streaming systems (Pub/Sub, Kafka, SQS, or similar), caching technologies (Redis, memcache), and containerized workloads on Kubernetes at scale. • Working knowledge of observability practices and tooling, ideally including OpenTelemetry; comfort reading, reviewing, and contributing to Go code.
